It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day! As a home of some Irish heritage and a lot of draw toward celebrating every single thing, I’ve always had a handful of little traditions that revolve around ol’ St. Paddy’s. Living right outside of Chicago means there’s no shortage of festive things to do – local and looking? This complete guide to St. Patrick’s Day from WGN is fantastic. Whether we feel like going out or staying home, here are a few things we do to feel festive.

My kids are usually lucky enough to walk one of the many Chicago Irish parades with their grandpa every year so I grab a cute shirt or, now that they are older and less inclined to matchy-matchy, green sweaters. These “lucky kiddo” shirts from years ago were some of my favorites!

I know there’s been a hot debate and some eye rolling about leprechaun traps on social media for years and, here’s the thing, who cares? When my oldest was in kindergarten he came home and asked to set a trap and I was like yeah, sure! And now it is just a cute, fun thing my kids do. In the morning I write a quick note and leave slime or coins or something small. It’s ok to make magic! Or skip things you don’t vibe with! Leprechauns ain’t that serious.

We all know I don’t need an excuse to make some cute, festive food! St. Paddy’s is no different. We skip the corned beef and cabbage most years and opt for green goodies instead. I love to make fun pancakes in the morning and then dinner is something that I dyed with chlorophyll.
