The Weekly Blooms

My flowery weekly tradition is a love letter to my dang self…

You know who is my favorite girl? Me.

Was that an aggressive opener to a flowery post? In yesterday’s post about our bestie girl businesses, I mentioned I have a “weekly blooms” tradition and boy, do I. When my kids were very small, and I was relatively new to being a self-employed PR baddie I was drowning a little bit. I was running myself ragged trying to be everything to everyone and sometimes it felt like my cup was empty. Bone dry. No drops to give. I needed a little love letter.

The very first official Weekly Blooms in 2015.

So I wrote one. I l-o-v-e fresh flowers. During this most chaotic but ultimately very happy time in my life of toddlerhood and still being new-ish to freelancing I started buying myself a small bouquet of flowers every week. I’d display them on my entryway table and it brightened my day every single time I walked through the door. I posted them on my personal social media and called it “The Weekly Blooms,” trying to encourage my friends n’ fam to treat themselves too.

With time (and lessons and successes and mistakes) I learned how to be happier and more productive as my own boss girl. My kids have become more self-sufficient. My life is still busy and chaotic, but I’ve grown into a much more collected and healed person who still thrives in chaos. My favorite girl is still me and I still love a little love letter in the form of gorgeous flowers. I sometimes buy some stems and arrange them myself, sometimes I pick up a grocery store bouquet. Sometimes I pop them into a vintage juice carafe, sometimes a fancy vase that I got as a gift. There are no rules when it comes to my love letter because it is mine.

Have some people called this tradition silly? Yes. Have some people made a point to tell me (sometimes multiple times) they wouldn’t waste their money on flowers? Yes. Am I unbothered? Yes! My thing isn’t going to be everyone’s thing and where some people pick up a fancy chocolate bar or bottle of wine, I like my blooms. This is my special thing for m-e. Have some friends told me my little tradition has inspired them to pull a Miley and buy themselves flowers too? Yes. And that makes me so freaking joyful.

Over the years I’ve scaled back the “weekly” in “weekly blooms” making it more of a biweekly or monthly endeavor but I still love my little love note. In finding joy when things are bleak, sometimes I need a bouquet of fresh roses or sunflowers or (my favorite in the entire world) peonies to bring me my little spark. This summer I have big plans to create a wildflower patch in my side yard and I have these very romanticized dreams that I’ll be cutting and arranging my very own blooms in no time. No one bring me back down to reality or remind me that I haaaate being hot and having to water the flowers will make me hot. I’m living in a flowery scented dreamworld and I love it here.

We all know I love my dopamine decor and there’s no better partner for my weekly love letter to moi than a quirky, cute vase. Some faves? This ban.do newspaper vase that is begging to live on my kitchen counter, this strawberry vase that sits in my living room and is perfect for big white peonies, this giddy up cowboy boot that was made for little wildflowers, and these Lego brick inspired planters that would add the perfect POP to my kids’ playroom.

There is a flower farm ten minutes from my parents’ house and one of my favorite summer traditions is taking my boys there to create a big bouquet.

Also, with your hard work last fall planting, you’ll soon have your own little farm flower oasis to cut & enjoy 🥰🥰😍😍😍
